Scandalous Me: The Jaqueline Susann Story

Life is strange. Not only do I remember where I was living when I first saw, Scandalous Me: The Jaqueline Susann Story, I remember what channel it was on, exactly where I sat on my couch, and how much I loved it, yet I can not recall when I saw it. Was it in 2011 or 2012 or both since I saw it twice? And even though it was years ago, I remember a lot of it. How could I not, Jaqueline Susann was incredible.

Jaqueline Susann was a famous writer with a fascinating life. She built her fame and $100 million plus fortune by finding a way when something didn’t go her way. The woman was a marketing machine who thought of and worked every angle. She was unstoppable. She was inspiring. She was real. She was raw. That is what made her an incredible author of 17 novels. Life imitated fiction so often that they were interchangeable. And that is the part that gets me.

Jaqueline Susann had as much joy in her life as she did pain. Her only child, a son, was autistic and lived in a very expensive sanitorium. Although he was given the best treatment that money could buy his condition never improved and she always blamed herself. And it was that blame and quite possibly shame that drove her to work as hard as she did.

Even as she was dying of breast cancer she maintained her neck-breaking pace so she could earn enough money to provide for her son who never recognized her. And not one of her supposed friends recognized that she was slowly dying before them.

Jaqueline Susann was an incredible woman with a fascinating life. I am glad that I saw, Scandalous Me: The Jaqueline Susann Story, and read her best-selling novel, Valley of the Dolls when I did. Any earlier and I would have missed the message. One thing I did not miss was the fact that it was filmed in Toronto and Background Casting Director.
