The Coffee Shop

Hi Everyone,

Today’s blog could also be called, So You Are Going to Watch the World Go ‘Round From Here Now? This is what I mean.

If you read my other blog called, A. Rebel’s Rant, and read my latest post called, How Do You Deal with Drama? this blog will make more sense. Here is the link if you want to read it now, http://arebelsrant.com/how-do-you-deal-with-drama/In it I mention two guys I was speaking with one evening at a coffee shop after a day of shopping and schlepping.

One thing I will never understand is the fascination people have with coffee shops. Those two guys and others are there all the time. Like morning, noon and night every day of the week. They stand in line outside waiting to get inside only so they can wait in line some more. Now with the weather being colder those two aren’t sitting outside anymore. Which brings me to my next point.

Those two guys, both retired, literally sit around drinking coffee and watching the world go by all day, every day. At some point, they must have gotten bored with the view and decided to sit by the bank I go to. Surprised to suddenly see them sitting on the concrete planter, I said, “So you are going to watch the world go ’round from here now?” and they both chuckled. We exchanged a few words, and it was when I decided one of them was a creep and refused to speak to him for months. Sadly that is the only thing that has changed. There is only so much one can see or do when they are standing in line or sitting around.

Think about that.

People living in downtown Toronto, a world class city, walking distance from Lake Ontario, the Eaton Centre, the St. Lawrence Market and more with access to TTC buses, streetcars and cabs steps from said coffee shop and yet all they do is sit around and watch the world go by. Because those two guys aren’t the only ones. But that is the only thing that they and others seem to do. I know because I walk past them as I go about my life. Like when I went to the bank. Or the grocery store, or one of the places mentioned about.

And what about the cost of those coffees and snacks they buy for themselves and others. If they both offered to buy me something, they have most likely offered to buy someone else something too. Since most of my life has been a struggle, I enjoy a good laugh or two, yet I am not going to hang around and be someone’s entertainment or keep someone company. Unless, of course, I want to.

Hanging around and watching the world go by isn’t for me. As limited as it is during the pandemic, I have a life. I also have interests other than watching people and traffic.

Thank you for reading, Behind the Blog!  ;D
