I loved this book for so many reasons and I highly recommend it. This is why.
A few of my favourite sentences in, Little Fires Everywhere, by Celeste Ng, are, Now here was this Mia, a completely different kind of woman leading a completely different life, who seemed to make her own rules with no apologies. Like the photograph of the spider-dance. Mrs. Richardson found this perturbing but strangely compelling. A part of her wanted to study Mia like an anthropologist to understand why—and how—she did what she did. Another part of her—though she was only vaguely aware of it at the moment—was uneasy, wanted to keep an eye on Mia, as you might keep your eye on a dangerous beast.
The above pretty much sums up how people treat others when they don’t understand or want to understand why they choose to live their life differently then them.
Being different is more than okay. And I highly recommend being different.
But how different is the Hulu miniseries going to be from the book? The online premise is described as,
Little Fires Everywhere, follows “the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, and the ferocious pull of motherhood—and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.
The above is very in line with the book but the miniseries seems to be a few glaring differences. If you love a great read, I highly recommend, Little Fires Everywhere, by Celeste Ng. If want to see how series varies from the book, watch it on Hulu. It starts today! And really with everything going on in the world today, everyone could use a distraction or two.
