Since the poor will always be among us, we should give people welfare or disability money but there should be some conditions. This is what I mean.
Just for the record, very few countries globally give people money just for being citizens. In fact a lot of countries, like Hungary give citizens that need help money if they do some work for the government. Jobs like cleaning buildings and properties. If a citizen works 15 days, which in Hungary is the minimum number of days a person can work to collect government money, then they will get 15 days of pay. And it is pay because the person earned it, they didn’t just get it for breathing. But if someone works 16 or more days they will get pay for the number of days they worked. More days worked means more money earned.
Other countries like the Ivory Coast don’t give their citizens anything. If someone falls, or is pushed on hard times, they have to figure it out on their own. And if they can’t figure it out, they either turn to their family and friends for help, or they go without. It is that simple. Sink or swim like you are being chased by a starving shark!
Now I don’t believe people should have to financially fend for themselves if they have fallen or were pushed onto hard times. That is like kicking someone when they are down. Unfortunatley not every country can afford to help their citizens as other countries can, like the Ivory Coast. Having a government that can help its citizens, even if the citizens have to earn the money they receive, like Hungary gives people hope when they feel hopeless. Having people “stay on the system” as they say for years or decades because they have a pulse is in a lot of cases, ridiculous.
There has to be a limit as to how many children a person can have and how many years an able-bodied and mentally capable person should be on assistance. There is always something someone could do. Picking up the phone to book or confirm appointments, office work or landscaping are some ideas. Giving people a hand up is widely accepted. Each of will fall or be pushed onto hard times at some point in our lives. How long we chose to stay there is up to us.
